Are you looking for low-budget stuff? Interested in DIY at all? Raspberry Pi supports Airplay via XBMC; you could roll your own receivers for pretty cheap that way, and then use some Airplay for Android stuff to get it talking. Otherwise Sonos is pretty much the standard.

check out iRule, there is a big thread on avs about it.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1351981/irule

i personally use rommie remote but that is only for iphone. iRule has a lot more customization from what people on that thread say as well, but i had used roomie before i decided to go with it and liked the interface.

it requires all of your components to be online and be able to be controlled via network, on your home network, and if your receiver or components can't do that itself, there are things you can buy to get them online.

Budget is about $300 or less, it's difficult to believe no one sells a Bluetooth or wifi controlled sound system, I'm pretty sure there's some money to be made here.

The exact situation is I'm getting married and sticking this on the registry, so DIY is out though I have played with arduinos a bit, anyone have experience wthi the 900mhz systems? could they be controlled by Bluetooth receiving box that feeds audio signals to the speaker system?

Depends on your approach. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Sonos (www.sonos.com). This will go over budget depending on setup and what you want to start with but for me it's perfect. I have a play 5, a bridge connected too my receiver/surroudn sound systems and I use my phone or ipad to control it.

Going to add a second play5 soon for another room as well.

Been searching amazon and pretty disappointed, is there a wireless speaker system (at least 4 speakers) that can be controlled by an android phone via wi-fi or Bluetooth? Or do I need a Bluetooth audio receiver that connects to the speaker system like this one?

Most of us control our speakers through our receiver, which usually has an app for a smartphone...or just use a bluetooth speaker with a music playing app. Yours is a rather small niche market.
