Speaker Stands

I just purchased the Onkyo HT-S6100 system and I need to pick up 4 stands. I'd like to spend less than $100 total, I need them to not look terrible (they'll be completely visible), and they'll be on carpet.

Also, when hooking up only 5 speakers to a 7 speaker system, should I connect the rear speakers to surround or surround back?

Can't help you regarding stands. As to your other questions regarding the speaker connections, you should hook up the "rear" speakers to the surround terminals, not surround back.

hah i have the same exact question but i have the Onkyo S5100. Also my speakers have that keyhole mounting on the back; not the screw in type. I was looking at monoprice's stand and they seem like they will do an adequate job with the surrounds but not the fronts (since my fronts are 6.4 lbs and those stands hold a max of 5lbs). I also called them and they said those stands come with keyhole mounting adapters. So OP, you might want to consider those for your surrounds and something nicer for the fronts.

I like the Onkyo stands (Link), but they're pretty pricey at over $100 a pair. I don't have a whole lot of faith in the monoprice stands, especially on thick carpet and a house that vibrates a little with the washing machine. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to bite the bullet and spend $200 on stands.

I have some Atacama 7's and they are good and they have had good reviews. They cost £70. I'm going to use breeze blocks for my rear floor standers (father hand me downs )

Black pipe at the length of your choosing. As far as your bases I would consider something like a 10-lb Standard Flat Weight Plate <---- you can buy a 'set' or find some less expensive than these

If that is too 'industrial' you could fashion some wooden (or even chrome for that matter) closet rod with a fancy flange of your choosing. You could also find a 'turned' wooden balustrade that would look very classy. I think the key is having a base that weighs twice that of the speaker and making certain the quality of your connections ...
