I have decided to go with the Altec Lansing speakers most likely over the Cambridge (b/c of price and they are better right?). Here in Canada, the ACS-54 are about $79.99 + 15% tax and the ACS-56 are about $169.99 + 15% tax. Now obviously you guys can see there is about a $90 difference between the two. I am spending a lot of money soon on some pc parts (t-bird 1.2g, asus a7m or abit kg7, 256 mb pc2100 ddram, sound blaster live value 5.1 PCI OEM, Pioneer 16x dvd and speakers) and I am very tempted to buy these speakers because they are only about $100 after tax, whereas the ACS-56 or Cambridge ddt 2250 are over $200 with tax. Now, I currently have some 2 piece P.O.S. speakers, and I blew them up, cause they SUCK. So along with my new cpu, mobo, etc. I want a some surround speakers that will produce loud, clear music, good quality for dvds, and clear, crisp sound for games. It seems as if these are the speakers for the $100 Canadian price range. Now I don't want the best, 500 bux Klipsch speakers, I just want some quality, inexpensive speakers. I realize that the ACS-56 are better than the ACS-54 but I don't know with my budget if they are worth the extra $100. Pls give me some ideas. I don't need to blow up my house, but I just want some good, loud, quality speakers. With a fixed budget, should I go with the ACS-54 and use the rest of money on a good heatsink or whatever? Thx guys, once again. :)
(u guys really give good help, thx)

before i read that mess, i gotta say 1 thing:

Paragraphs and spacing make a person more apt to read...

MicroPro has the 54 for $46 plus $12s/h (mention pricewatch)
Microsource has 56 for $94 and $10s/h

Now for the specs:

Acs-54-

20w= 4(3" satellites)
20w= 4" subwoofer

40w system
No digital...

Acs-56

35w= 4(3" satellites)
35w= subwoofer

70w system
Yes Digital

The 54 has JUST enough power to sound good and let you hear it from den to kitchen.

The 56 would be for want.

I just got the ACS-54 a month ago while I was building my new computer and I have to say I'm completely content with them. I'm sure that they are nowhere near as good as Klipcsh setup but between these speakers and my new Hercules GTXP my new computer sounds a million times better than my old one.
As I hear it the only real difference between the ACS-54 and the 56s is that the 56s support digital in. The only reason that I see for digital in is if you are a real audiophile who can't stand the slight hissing that analogue speakers have at high volume levels and if thats the case then you are looking in the wrong $ bracket for your speakers.
The ACS-54s have good sound quality and will go as loud as you need them to unless you want to have a house party or something and I'd have to say are pretty well the best bang for buck deal I could find out there and while I wouldn't mind using the digital out feature on my GTXP I really don't think it would be worth twice the price for a very similar speaker set.
If you're upgrading from a generic stereo system either is sure to rock your world.
