Speaker selection/mounting questions

I'm looking to drop in some speakers in my '96 Corolla. 6 1/2"s in the back and 4"s in the front. I'll be using my Kenwood head to power them at this point. I suppose I have two questions:

1) Crutchfield.com implies that I have a shallow are in which to mount my speakers. Is there an easy/standard way to boost the speakers up and have no chance of rattling or other sound degredation?

2) What speakers would you recommend? I'm looking to spend in the $100-$140 range. The Polk EX series caught my eye (mostly because they fit my car nicely). The Infinity Reference series looks decent, but is too deep unless I can boost them up. Any other names I should ponder?

Thanks for any help.

consider just getting some 6x9 speaker boxes and mounting them to the rear deck. They'll sound great pointing right at you 🙂 and you can get larger speakers, too.
I'd look at the Infiniti Kappas with CMMD.
