hey i was wondering which of these speakers is suitable in a gaming environment. both of them are from the company klipsch, and my friend has been pushing me to get the more expensive one. i need your opinion on this. here are the speakers below.

The one i like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836119105

The one my friend wants me to get: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836119101

i checked up that the second one is an older version of the speakers, but has the thx support, while the newer one i want doesn't. help me choose the right one for me!

Is this for strictly gaming, or are you going to be doing music too?

If it's gaming only, you might want to think about a 4.1 or 5.1 set if you have space for it. You'd be able to get a Logitech z-5300 set for about this much. It wouldn't be as nice for music, but you'd get surround sound in your games.

If you're doing music too though, I think you have some good options picked out. I don't know where the review are, but I remember reading a couple about the GMX set saying it was not as good as the original Promedias. If the difference is only 10% of the total cost, I'd say get the slightly more expensive Promedia set.

Unless you're crazy like me, these speakers should last you quite a while, so it's a good thing to invest a little more in (vs most other computer parts).

EDIT:

Deals on some of these systems....

z-5300s

Promedias (watch out though, the last time these guys had this sale several ended up being DOA)
Maybe you could order two sets and with any luck, 1 will work ;)

They are both analog. All speakers are analog, it's just that some have digital connections for decoding rather than using the decoders on your soundcard/integrated audio.

I'm pretty sure neither of these have a digital connection even.

I think the main difference is the quality of the satellites with the Promedias being slightly better.

THX is irrelevent. It's just a marketing thing so don't look into that any.

That being said, the ProMedia's probably are a little better than the GMX series. I have the 5.1 GMX speakers and they are great (and I like the look), but the ProMedia's do sound slightly better.

The difference is really in the subwoofer. The Promedia subwoofer is a million times better than the GMX one (ok slight exaggeration)

Get the Logitech X-530's there great all around and a much better price. I have them and love them they are the best speakers I have ever used and trust me I've used many. They work both for gaming and just listening to music.

Here is a Link

I haven't heard them, but I think it would be a noticable difference. You might have to have both speaker sets and play one and then the other though. I'm sure you would be happy with either on their own, but if you heard both, you would probably prefer the Promedias.

In my opinion, I'd say just do it right the first time for sure and get the Promedias (but I just spent about $1900 on 5 speakers so I'm not your average Anandtecher :p)
