obviously i know its not fixable, however im curious to know if i can get another woofer and just change it out? or would that make teh 2 speakers sound too different?

i lookd at the other speaker and it is fine, so im really confused as yo how it happened

Man, how old were those suckers?

20+ years eaisily im 23 and i think my dad had them before i was alive, before that one died that were great speakers

The surrounds have rotted.

Actually you can repair the woofer if you like with new surrounds. Generally its just easier to replace the driver but you would have to replace it with EXACTLY the same driver.

Search for "woofer speaker surround repair" for products.

sweet thanks spidey ill do that

i realize i would have to replace with the exact same one, however coudl i just relace both of them with new ones also? easier then finding the old one

You do know that there are companies that will replace the rubber/foam surrounds on woofers, right?

But the Advent of old is NOT the Advent of today. The company was sold at least once since its inception by Kloss.

The damage you see, though, is just from age. The foam, from what I can see in the pics it seems to be foam, slwoly dries out and gets brittle. So there doesn't have to be a lot of bass-thumping, just time.

Rubber can suffer the same fate, too. Age on some things is not kind.

Edit......I see Spidey answered it already. To follow up on your last question........you can replace them with the same size woofers, but the sound quality probably won't be the same unless you can get them replaced with the EXACT same woofers. Replacing the surrounds may be your best bet to retain the original sound quality, and the OLD Advents were very good sounding speakers.

you could call advent and see if you can get replacement drivers for them. Replacing drivers is pretty cheap and very easy - and yep, sound wise its a good idea to do both speakers.
