My friend is trying to get a high end speaker system that will last him for a while. He's thinking about spending $300-400. He's using the speakers for games, and movies but I think he wants to emphasize on the quality of music playback. I've helped him narrow it down to 3 choices and I would like some advice and opinions based on experience on these sets (Especially the gigaworks s700). He's running a Audigy 2 Platinum, and would prefer to use either SPD/IF or Optical connections for the speakers. I told him either:

Creative DDTS-100 + Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1 :D or
Creative DDTS-100 + Gigaworks S700 (5.1) or
Logitech Z680s.

I know that all three are top of the line speakers and that some people will swear by them, so I'd like opinions beyond that they are very good, some technical information would be really helpful (Quality of lows, mids, highs), overall feel, problems, etc.

I'm especially curious about the Gigaworks as not many vendors carry them. (I've had previous experiences with the other two).

Also, anyone know of any other decoders other than the DDTS-100 and the Klipsch DD5.1 that cost around $100-$150?

Thanks a lot and... if you reply to this message, you are a very fortunate person (to own such a set) =).

I personally own Klipsch 5.1 ultras, and i have a good friend that owns the Logitech's. From experience, the Klipsch do offer marginally better sound at higher volume levels, however, it also has a higher price tag and lacks a decoder. plug the sub enclosure is much bigger as are the satillites.

all around i'd prefer the Logitechs, however if money is no object definatly get the Klipsch(but don't bother with the digital decoder, just use the nice analoge ability of the audigy 2 and instead use its digital inputs to control digital devices.

I have gigaworks w/ and Audigy 2, I like them alright. I'd probably get the Klipsch if I had to buy again, these speakers just aren't that loud.
