I recently bought a pioneer 5900ib to replace my stock mits eclipse stereo...I've been using it for about 2 months..sounds great but the problem is the speakers in the front doors are busted. The front two speakers cannot produce any bass without distortion. I was going to just buy a pair of speakers but then was wondering if i should replace the 2 back speakers also.

.They're probably distorting because the 'surround' (foam or cloth piece that holds the cone to the frame and controls the cone movement) is probably badly ripped or rotted away. Cheap factory speakers tend to have that problem. If you can pop off the grille covering the speaker you can check to see if they're damaged. If they're not maybe you just have the bass adjustment up too high.

Amp w/crossover + 10" Sub in a small enclosure w/port. Less than $100 + your time, and problem solved.

By taking the bass out of the picture, and straight to the sub, the smaller front/rear speakers can do what they are really designed for; midrange and treble.
Edit; oh yeah, replace all 4 internal speakers while you're at it. If you go the amp/sub route, you don't even have to look for really high-end stuff, even the cheap wal-mart pioneers or sonys will sound excellent.

Even if i turn the bass to 0, it still distorts, i didn't have this problem the day i bought the stereo unit though. So i found some polk db651 speakers which im about to purchase...any opinions on this brand?? I think it would be pretty easy to install but what accessories do i need to get it installed completely?
the db series is good for the price. I put 4 in my sisters car. They lack bass I think though, so Id get a sub somewhere down the line.
As for accessories, you might need speaker brackets for the front. These are good for a few reasons I think. It might prevent any rattle the speaker might make, it will give it extra room so not to hit the glass and I think its less hasle to install as it has many holes that you can use to match the door to the speaker without extra drilling. Another accessory you might need are the wire harness. The wire harness allow you to 'plug in' from the stock adapter and have 2 ends so you can slip on the speaker. I liked it because I didnt have to cut a thing. Normally best buy has these too. But actually if you just plug your car into crutchfield and add everything you want to your car everything else as far as accessories should show up for free. When I bought my set of 4 there I got a 2 pack of speaker brackets and the wire harness was a 2 pack as well. I bought another set of wire harnesses at best buy.
So basically I installed 4 speakers without drilling and without splicing a thing. I was happy.

I did my research at crutchfield and there already $99 for one pair, but at circuitcity, there only $75 and get the second pair 50% off. Other than that, i prolly will need the plug adapters and what do the spacers allow me to do, just to get it to fit?

Those are the same ones I bought (651), I bought some of the 675 for the rears though.

I would probably get 2 packs, but don't open them till you get everything disassembled. The plugs in the rear might be different from the front. I think best buy was cheaper for me.

My car also has 2 speakers on the dash, but nevermind about the infinity, looks to complicated with all the drillings....Can someone recommend me a setup...specifically from crutchfield i suppose or should I just stay with the cc deal?

Ha, ya I went through the same situation. Infinity or Polk? that is the question. I have not heard the infinity but I would not really hesitate buying them. I heard they have even less bass than the polk db series. If you are getting speaker brackets and the wire harness for free with crutchfield, then go that route, might not have tax that way either.
Oh and of course you can have different brand speakers. As far as component speakers go they are nice and all but I did not want to bother with installing a tweeter somewhere in the car.
BTW... Please let us know what year eclipse you have. Not sure what size you need at this point.
Looking at crutchfield Im even more confused. I don't have a clue as to what size speakers you need. I did a search for an 02 eclipse and 5.25 to 6.75 come up as fitting for both front and rear.

Buy 2 pairs of the wire harness at bb or cc as well. Set you back maybe 16 bucks total.
Buy 2 pairs of speaker brackets. According to Crutchfield, you need a set for front AND rear. another 20 bucks maybe here. I would call around and see if BB and CC carry this, they should.
Total: $149.00
Second recommendation: Crutchfield.com
Buy the Infinity Reference 6022si (6.5) for the front and the 5012i (this is a 5.25) for the back for 149.98 total. You could do 2 sets of 6022si's, putting you at 200 total.
You get 2 speaker harnesses that you need, and 1 pair of Speaker brackets that you need. According to crutchfield you don't need brackets for the front when you buy the 6022si's.
Total: $149.98 free ship
And another bonus with crutchfield is they send you instructions on how to take the door/rear section of your car out to get to the speakers.

I dont really need an amp or a sub since really i only need working speakers that produce enough bass for me to hear. The eclipse is actually very small and I think a sub would be overdoing it...Kinda low on money so I ended up getting the 4 polk speakers from cc and installation stuff cost a lot...around $60 just for the spacers and the harnesses.

Aww, you don't know what you're missing. Those small speakers can't reproduce the lower spectrums at all, and what they do produce is pretty weak. Look at the prices of an amp/crossover/sub. Remember, it doesn't have to be huge, but it will make your music sound much better at any volume. My wife had a 97 Eclipse GS-T when we were engaged, and I kitted her stereo out for her. Cost less than $200 to add 4 new speakers, 1 sub, 1 amp w/crossover, wiring. And it sounded crystal clear and accurate at all frequencies.
