My logitech 6.1 system (the model lower than the 640s i think) makes a hissing noise when I have the speakers on but no music (for example) playing. It's not always the case. I just find it annoying when I have them on and i can hear a hissing noise from them. this is on a 400sc with a turtle beach card and onboard sound disabled. My roommate has the same issues with an epox 8rda+ and the nforce onboard sound. He has different speakers though.

Does turning the volume on the system all the way down change the loudness of the hissing?

Look into using a fiber optic connection, that's supposed to eliminate background idle noise.

try turning the pc vol. down to about 50% and keep it there. That might get rid of the hiss you hear.

if not then you might have ground noise from a crappy ground in the PC ... you can try and fix this inside the PC or do what I always do regardless of what I use I buy a ground source noise filter ... that 99% of the time cleans up any unwanted noise picked up inside the wires. They are not $$ at all I pay about 20 bucks for mine.

@finnkcf: tried your solution already. I've seen that occur before but this time it wasn't that. Why is that the case anyways? poorly designed amps?

I'm curious about the crappy ground. I haven't heard of a ground source noise filter. where might I get one of those?
