Speaker Hiss

I have Altec Lansing ACS54 speakers/subwoofer and a Sound Blaster Live! Value sound card. Whenever the Play Control or Wave/Direct Sound slider gets close to the half-way mark on the slider, hiss comes out of the speakers, even on low volume. Right now, the slider is way towards the top otherwise hiss comes out. Our old speakers (some no-name brand) never did that...I don't think the speakers are bad, I guess they just do that right?

WEll i have heard that the ACS 54's will do that even at just close to high volume. You bascially get what you pay for. Are you sure you are plugging in your speakers into the right ports?

Mute everything on your play control. First go to properties and enable everything. Then start muting things like your line-in and cd audio and stuff like that. I had the same problem and I found out it was my CD Audio that was causing hiss.
