**SPEAKER GURU'S** Please help, Pioneer Car stereo speaker is popping...

hey guys, i got a nice pair of 6.5" coaxial speakers off of ebay from a great retailer. these sounded great for about two weeks but then i began to notice a "crackling" noise coming from one of the speakers. i have a cheap cd headunit that has never given me any problems. the problem gets worse when i turn up the bass. however, i have never listened to them at high volumes or "bumping" bass by any means. what in the world could this be? 🙁

I have the same problem with my factory deck and factory speakers.

had a nice pioneer headunit in my car for a while and the speaker was just fine. Put my factory deck back in and now the speaker is popping again.

Hrm...I am no expert at speakers only other thing I can think of is those 2 little wires that go from
center of the cone to the piece that sticks out the center of the speak( not sure the name of it
but have seen the wire come loose from there before.

first problem is that they are only pioneers. Gotta get your self something good. Second, the speakers might be rated at a lower output than the headunit, thus, over powering the speakers has made them go bad already.

Nope, not the case, my headunit only puts out around 8 watts RMS and the speakers can handle 30 watts RMS. Who is next? Also, these speakers should be just fine for a $900 dollar car. I will not be buying Boston Acoustics or any other $100+ speakers. That is foolish in this situation. 😉

Also, only one of the speakers are doing this, not both.

the reason is because you are not feeding them enough juice, and because of that they go into clipping, which can (or has) caused the speakers to be blown. More power is better than not enough power. Distortion blows speakers, not power. In your case with the stock head unit, distortion is killing them
