Speaker fill? And what about placement

I have a Logitech x-530 on my pc.

Because I never quite understood how to place the two rear speakers behind me (the wires would run over the floor which I wouldn't like) I placed it like this:

Real left speaker l Front left speaker l PC monitor with front center speaker before it l front right speaker l rear right speaker

The sub stands on the floor (to the left of the rear left speaker)

So basically, I have two speakers on my left, two on my right and one in the center. (and a sub on the floor, left of my two 'left' speakers). Is this placement ok?

Second question: when listening to youtube, mp3's or winamp, only the front left/right speakers have sound going through them. (because youtube etc,.. are all stereo I take it).

When I enable speaker fill, sound goes through all speakers but it's just the exact same stereo sound on every speaker. Result: It sounds worse than the speaker fill option disabled.

So, is it normal for a 5.1 setup to only utilise two speakers for 'normal sounds' (youtube/mp3,...) and only use full 5.1 with dvd's/blurays ?

dude if you don't have the room for a 5.1 setup, why did you buy it? why not use the money on a better 2.1 setup?
