SPDIF Sound Problems

I recently Bought a FoxconnNF4K8AC-RS , although setting it up and installing has gone through without a glitch i only have one niggle.
Thats with the coaxial sound port. I need to use the coaxial sound port for my sound as i use a Yamaha RX-V350 Home Cinema reciever , but when i connect the coaxial cable in , the reciever only displays two speakers and then goes into Dolby PCM mode . Yet in my old Asus a78nxe-deluxe socket a motherboard when i used this port the s all the 5 speakers would display on the reciever and it would then change to Dolby digital , even if it was in windows.
The other problem i have is , i only seem to get sound when i install the main Real AC97 audio driver set from the foxconnn cd.. but still then only stereo sound in whatever program i run . If i install the nvidia soundstorm drivers i get no sound at all 🙁
this is really confusing for me as this is the only motherboard ive had problems like this with the coaxial.. others have just reconised 5.1 straight away on the receiver.

Is this a driver problem you think?Would it be worth upgrading to a SB Audigy 2 Platium set as its really cheap at ebuyer atm if im only going to be using it for the digital port?
As i really wana get the sound setup properly again as it sound utterly pants atm 🙁

thanks for anyhelp 😀
been puzzling me for weeks 🙁

Normally a digital out would only give you PCM stereo unless something is DD or DTS encoded (like a DVD).

Did your old motherboard have dolby digital live?

yes it did, and on the old motherbaord all the 5 speakers were lit up all the time on the reciever wen windows started.
i cant even get 5.1 from dvd's on the new motherboard.
i presumed it shouldve have dolby digital live as its nforce 4 and got a coxial port spdif ?
I geuss if i cant find a fix i might have to buy the Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS Platinum 7.1 which is going for about £90 at ebuyer ...
Which has both the optical and coaxial port at my disposal...
i geuss i would be better of allround in buying that if i cant fix this...

It's probably a setting with your DVD software or a selection for your integrated sound then. AC3 passthrough is what you want to select for DVDs.

No NF3 or NF4 boards have any kind of DDL afaik. The Creative cards also don't have it.
You should be able to get passthrough of encoded material from either though.

If you want a cheap card that will work just about as well as an A2 Platinum for digital out, get a Chaintech AV-710 for about $30.
