SPDIF question

i'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but i've looked in the back of my DVD player it says "coaxial" and on my Live! drive it says SPDIF, however, they look the same, are these two the same things? and if they are, they look similar to a composite cable, can i use a compsite cable for it? what is the longest composite/RCA cable that i can find?

It will pass the 5.1 signal to your coax input on your receiver... I use it for my HTPC and am able to get DD/DTS 5.1 on DVD's

Coaxial Digital and Optical are variants of Sony/Philips Digital Audio Interface, aka S/PDIF.

So yes, it will work.

And another yes to your other question - a standard RCA cable will work for *short* runs. When the cable is longer it gets exposed to more interference and may affect sound quality with pops and clicks.

Keep in mind that the longest acceptable run for a digital coax is 6m IIRC.
