This also bring up another question for me. The reason I bought this card was to replace a 5900xt that the heatsink fan went out on. Is there a way to get another heatsink fan for that old card so I can use it while this 6800 is RMA'd? (assuming they RMA it)

Personally, I think it is just a whole lot of dust in the heatsink/fan. You said you cleaned the computer, but did you try a can of air on the fan/heatsink?

Go ahead and try to RMA it anyways... usually how it works is since XFX has stopped making 6800s entirely, they will send you the upgraded equivilent, probably a 7600gt or maybe even a 7800gs. Thats what I usually hear what happens as a result of RMA'ing an old card like that. [edit after rereading post]
Good luck with the process.

A VF700-ALCU would work, but at $25 it's probably worth more than the FX5900XT itself.

You can probably pick up a third party heatsink fan unit for $20 - $30 for your old card. My 9800pro was out of warranty and the fan was starting to go so I got a third party one for $25, still going strong in my wife's system.

Oh and

pick up a riding crop when you get a chance, carrot on a stick even with all the speed enchants isn't nearly as fast.

They tested my card as faulty and are going to be sending me a replacement. Very happy with XFX so far. Will update when I get the new card.

Option 1: http://www.svc.com/avc-nv3.html for $15, very good cooling, active RAM cooling, rear exhaust. Designed specifically for FX 5900XT.

Option 2: http://www.svc.com/fan-acces2.html for $17. Not as good cooling but passive meaning no fan to die. Can add a fan to make for better cooling. Can be used on a wide range of cards.

Good news indeed! Let us know what happens with the replacement.
