I am interested in the Sparkle SFP400-60GN power supply, after reading a good web review on this supply it is now top of my list.

It appears to be a high quality supply and from the photographs I have seen of the internals it is fitted with some very big heatsinks and capacitors and looks tidy.

There is just one thing how quiet is the fan that is fitted to it?

If it is noisy has anyone fitted a different fan to it and if so what type of fan?

I have one, and the fan is VERY noisy . . . however, it is not a big bother because the unit is on the floor (full tower). I have a floor fan going in the room that drowns it out anyway.

I learned years ago that towers on the floor are the way to go . . . and therefore they must have side opening panels. It gets you lots of desk space and puts most noise on the back burner.

Thanks for that info Corky-g.

At the moment I have a very quiet system with a Lian Li case stuck right on my desk!

I like to play CDs while surfing or working without hearing the noise of my system so if I purchase the Sparkle 400Watt PSU the first thing I will need to change is the fan.

Very good choice of Power Supply. In terms of noise the ones I have seen have probably been 'middle of the range'. Certainly not the quietest but a fan change will do wonders.

~235W on the combined 3.3V and 5V rails is nice

I have this PS and it is great. I have four hard drives, three fans, two cd drives, and I can still over clock my athlon 1.4 to about 1.6. But its pretty noisy (but not in comparison to my cpu's fan).
