Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has any idea when Sparkle's fanless single slot GT440 is going to hit the market. Specifically the model referenced in AnandTech's Computex 2011 article from 3 weeks ago (June 6th or 7th)

Model is SXT4401024S3LNMP

I'm in quite the bind here with a specialized HTPC case that requires a single slot card in a riser board. I just sent back the fanless GT520 from Asus because the heatsink takes up a second slot... and so on it's side it will not fit the external opening in the chassis.

For my purposes it must be fanless as my HTPC case has no moving parts (CPU/PowerSupply etc) and I do not want to waste all the time, money, effort by picking up a simple 430 with a fan. Even the Asus GT430 wont work http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121448

Because the heatsink on the upper end of the card will run into the power brick in my case when turned on it's side... just a half inch shorter on that heatsink would have made it work... but now I must wait for Sparkle's GT440 above.

Fixed.

Seriously though, where is your airflow coming from? Even an Intel Atom CPU with a passive heatsink will overheat if there is no airflow.

Regarding the Sparkle card, it was just announced a month ago. Also, not every announced product makes it to market (or to your local market).

Case is the H5.S from http://www.hd-plex.com/

I've been running an Aopen DE2700 as a FreeBSD firewall for 6 months with no airflow... it's warm but doing fine (so far).

Regarding the topic and question, I guess I may have to consider placing the power brick outside the case which will give me the extra half inch I need for that Asus card.

GPU is another story, I'm concerned about it. When the flexible riser is used the card and the heatsink will be face down, so whatever heat is pulled away from the card's chips by the heatsink will float right back up into the PCB.

I'm sure generally speaking heat will escape the card but it's not as ideal as if there were enough buffer room above the expansion slot and there were heatpipes wrapped around the other side of the card like that MSI 9800 model (rough memory).

Anyways, if I need a fan then I must find the most silent single slot GT430 fan in the market, or even put on an aftermarket single slot GPU fan... you can see why I'd be so bummed to introduce noise after putting a system together in that case.

Solution = Radeon 5450:

This heatsink shouldnt give you any issues.

Your "GT 520 Asus" is to big (as u said):

my current htpc has a HIS 5450

the one I am building now I want to be NVIDIA for CUDA and LACUVID and MadVR.

I like AMD and would do a Llano for an upstairs secondary HTPC
