I'd like to see this compared to 6600gt agp

i can get one for £100 in the UK doesn't come with any bundled software which is great 🙂

This is, as far as I can tell, a regular old GF6600 (except the 256MB model runs the memory clock at 500Mhz instead of 550, which would hurt performance). Benchmarks of this card are widely available.

Not sure what you're asking, but if you're thinking it's going to compete with a 128MB 6600GT you'd be mistaken.

More memory is better then less memory, but only on identical chipsets (apples to apples... 6600 to 6600)... once you try and compare a 6600 to a 6600GT, the memory plays less of a factor.

Bottom line, a 128MB 6600GT will still spank a 256MB 6600 (vanilla) video card.

Not sure if that was what you're asking, but if not, please clarify.

My interest in this card is that i'm not having to pay for any bundled software and with 256mb of memory I can run doom3 in higher quality modes without disk swapping. 6600 is built on the same core as the 6600gt right? I'm not planning on running crazy high resolutions either so i'm thinking this card will be a good stopgap until i get a pcix dualcore system (radeon 9500 at the moment.)

Please could you post a link to any benchmarks for this card as i've tried googling it for a while with no joy.

You won't be able to run Doom3 in higher quality modes with that card. The extra memory is not really useful on a card of that class. It is largely a marketing gimmick. The 128MB card will actually be faster due to it's faster memory.

Disk swapping occurs when you run out of main memory, not video card memory.

just look at the 9800 pro 128 meg and 256 meg versions. there's NO performance difference. and you're comparing a slower card with more ram to a faster card... of course the faster card is going to spank it.
