Spare propane tank storage

Decided to purchase a 2nd full propane tank for when my main tank runs out while I'm grilling, but I'm not sure where to store the thing away from the elements, yet outdoors like they recommend.

They say not to store indoors - no garage, no shed, no basement, and they say not to store under your grill.

Where the heck does everyone store these things??

Funny - the FAQ asks WHY you can't store it under the grill, but they never actually answer. I wonder why?

the safety valves are designed to release propane if pressure builds up...due to warmer temps....especially if the tank has been improperly overfilled.

so that little burp of propane might go up to the grill box...

Ahhh, thanks. So, what about exposure to the weather?

I'm assuming if I put it under my grill cover next to my grill, I'm risking the same as if I put it directly under the grill.

I'm surprised I can't seem to find some simple ventilated storage bin for these things...

1) Keep spare propane tanks outside away from heat/electric sources.
2) ???
3) Proft

Heck, I just keep mine in a shed on my property. What's the big deal?

I just bought my shed and don't want to risk blowing it up. :)

Supposedly, propane expands dramatically when it heats up, so there's a safety valve that releases it if needed. My shed gets real hot, and since there's not good airflow in there, theoretically the propane could pool near the tank and potentially become a big explosive risk.

I keep mine in the shed anyway. If it blows up it's at least far enough away from the house.

From the site:

Question: Your label says not to store the tank under my grill. Why?

That label caution refers to spare or extra tanks, or if you store your grill indoors. Your tank is perfectly safe when stored beside your grill.

If you can store your tank under your grill, why can't you install your spare near your grill, but just not directly under. I store mine under the grill shelf, which is under the tarp during non-activity. During grilling, the heat rises, and doesn't heat the spare tank.

Is there a proper way to overfill a propane tank?
