SPARC: whats the deal?

quite simply i grow tired of x86

anyone know where i can learn all about the sparc platform? Mostly simple stuff, different machine configurations, the various bus speeds and motherboard setups they use, the cache setups, what differentiates one generation from another (sparc, sparc 5, ultrasparc?).

not looking for instruction-set level stuff, i'll get deeper later.

Not to sound scarcastic but www.sun.com is THE place to start. When I started working for the company I work for now I spent a couple of days just poking around the site, reading the FAQS, and generaly picking up all I could.

The hardware goes from pretty straight forward (the new Blade 100 workstations actually use Socket-370 sockets for their cpu's and ATI Rage intergrated video etc etc) to very complex with their server configurations. I'm just waiting for a Blade 100 to arrive DOA so I can pop a old cheap Celeron in there to see what it does
