i watched it last week at a sneak preview, and it wasn't that bad. While the previews to the movie make it look like a comedy, it was far from it. Just a follow up to drunk punch love style?

my friend made a curious interpretation of the way adam sandler is going. Kind of like Tom Hanks career, from Big, and the such to his current roles like the terminal and saving private ryan. I forget Hanks was a comedian before a serious actor.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

not for the 'macho' guys out there but not a totally sappy love story either. Take your girl to go see it and I think you will both enjoy it.

Not bad, but way too melodramatic. It would have been better if they cut it down to 90 minutes and dwelled less on the soap opera-style treatment.

Agreed. James L. Brooks films have a tendency to wallow a bit too much in the schmaltz... though the characters themselves are great (except for Adam Sandler's character... I liked Sandler in his comedy roles, and even in Punch Drunk Love, but this performance wasn't believable IMHO). Great casting of Tea Leone--she is great in her role (scary as that is).

And Paz Vega is exquisite. Great actress and I hope she appears in more films.

It's a renter (though it's so old I doubt it's appearing at many theaters now anyway).

P.S. I forgot to add that I felt there were too many characters JLB tried to juggle... the two kids (especially the boy) got very little screen time and I was still waiting for their characters to develop when the film abruptly ends (don't want to give anything away). I guess I wouldn't say it should have been longer, but I felt the kids should have been more involved in the storylines; else they shouldn't have been brought in at all.

P.P.S. Cloris Leachman was a great choice for the drunk mother-in-law.
