Spam drives me nuts - I work for an ISP and see the huge amount of time and money (anti-spam/anti-virus servers and subscriptions) spent to combat it, but yet it seems to get worse.

I'm trying to picture a friend/relative/classmate/coworker who would actually be the type of person who spams and I can't really see them doing it.

I know they must be making *some* type of return to make it worthwhile, but maybe not - but since they aren't really spending any money, they don't care.

What kind of moron would sign up for a credit card or refinance their homes with some shady website based out of Iceland after receiving some random piece of email?

_______

Edit: I searched for spammer on Google Images and came up with this dude. I think he wants to sell you Hawaii for $49.99. Beatdown

You are wrong.

I agree. But if I agree with you, and I am wrong, then you must be wrong too. But if you are wrong when you say I am wrong, then I must be right. If I am right about being wrong, then you are right about me being wrong, but one of us can't be right and the other wrong, because we agree. So what's it gonna be?

I absolutely agree with that - but there are also tons and tons more naive people that don't use AOL (I talk to them all the time, grrrr).

It just boggles my mind that people have no respect for others in that they clog networks and mailboxes with crap they don't want to see - all while leeching off of somebody else's network resources to do so.

Anybody want to order a college degree for $3.99?

I am a network admin and I am sick of the cry babies that keep emailing me saying that my server is spamming them... doh. My server is locked down and does not forward spam. It bugs me. Just delete the spam like everyone else.

You will never know who actually sends spam because if they were ever found out people which punch the stuffing out of them. Spammers are on my huge list of people that earned themselves a sever beating.

People need to go after the stupid companies that actually pay for that spam to flood you. I only hope and pray that I will see those losers in the chapter 11 column after they blow all that money on spam adds and people just delete it.

Thats the problem with spammers. A spammer is like a drug dealer, they could be anyone. You could come home one day and find that you're best friend is a spammer. You may even wake up to find that you are indeed the spammer. How could you live with yourself? All those emails, all those victims? But you soon remember "Nobody knows, I am anonymous" and you're spamming continues. It escalates, no more are you just sending out ways to lower your mortgage or to find free porn. You move up the ladder and start offering free home evaluations. Yes, thats golden, Free Home Evaluations. Your passion deepens, you're fingers numb from typing. Free trial offer, Get your kicks with our s-x picks, Free Home Evaluations, Buy an Island for just $19.95, Become President of the United States!!! Oh, you've gone too far. You anxiously try to stop transmission but its too late. Your entire mailing list has removed itself. But have they? You soon find one signal address left and you press that send button...

Well done! Yeah - we could all become spammers, but then we'd all have to kick our own arses.

You know way too much about what goes on in a spammer's mind. You're on the inside, aren't you?

You're one of them!!!

spammers are selling stuff, which makes it not impossible to find out who they actually are, as there has to be some way for you to place your order.

btw, there is a lawsuit pending against washington mutual because one of those home mortgage spam emails turned out to be a washington mutual broker or something. so yea, it's not just little companies!

Easy. Being wrong or right is a state. Therefore, you guys change state ad nauseum.

Oh, spammers. Ya, they should stop buying spam; it doesn't even taste that good.
