I got this message on my answering machine: not an email, my answering machine @ my home phone number

"Hi I'm Bob something, I've been trying to contact you for awhile. This is Awards Verification center.. for Chevy Tahoe 2001 and vacation trip worth upto $2,900. Please give me a call at 800 xxx xxxx and my extension is x100.. Thank You.."

My speculations::
1. I don't clearly remember entering for anything.. but may have done something on internet
2. 'I've been trying to contact you for awhile' and 'Awards verification center' seems like this is not a regular spam or solicitation..
3. I've called the number and it's busy.. just straight up busy signals.. But I will try again during weekdays..
4. This is not an email, this was left in my voicemail @ my home number

Is this some gayass solicitation? Did anyone else get this kind of approach??? or Did I win something? (trying to beat down my hopes)

Please let me know..

What was preventing them from contacting you before? Who knows though, it is an 800 number.

Go for it, but remember, don't buy ANYTHING! No postal fees, no nothing, no packaging, whatever...

"I've been trying to reach you for awhile"

Seeing how they haven't reached you (your answering machine) what was stopping them from leaving a message previously like they did today? Remember, sounds too good to be true.......you know the rest.

If you call them, never pay a dime for ANYTHING!!!! NOT A THING!!

I once got a message like that.. Except the guy talked in a voice which sounded like he was out of breath and he sounded like a stalker. The fact they left it on your answering machine might mean you may have won it, but probably it's some advertising scheme.

You know what to do... get ahold of them and see what is going on. Don't give them any money though.

Alright, since no one else has the balls to say it. you didn't win squat!

If you had, the message would go something along the lines of. Hi Bob (or whatever your name is) congratulations, you won the (name of legitimate co) sweepstakes that you entered on (date). You have won a (exact description of prize).

In reality you would have been notified by regular mail.

Yeah probably nothing. Just don't give them ANYTHING. Not even a pre-paid postage envelope with your return address :)

these are advertising schemes. it's most likely a time share thing or possibly a really low priced cruise vacation that you just can't pass up. my GF bot something like this and also notified by mail. we actually went on the cruise. it turned out to be about $400/person (4 ppl) and airfare for the trip to FL from CA. not a bad deal considering it also included car rental and hotel for 3 nights plus cruise for 2 night. but be wary......

I had a call like that several weeks ago, never called back. Maybe you were next in line to win.

If you do call them, stick to them like a dog on a pants leg and don't let them go until you have your prizes.

It sounds exactly like a call I got a few weeks ago. I won some sort of vehicle that I didn't remember entering to win. As soon as the person calling went into her breathless little spiel though, my heart sank. Sure enough, she wanted a credit card to process the form I needed to claim the vehicle. I let her run through it all, and of course, at the end, she gave me the "youmightnotwinthecarbutyou'reguaranteedtowinaprizeworthatleast$50" crap.

I'm not saying your call is a scam, but as everyone else has said, be careful. The fact that they're notifying you this way is questionable. Most people who win such a large prize do not get messages left on answering machines; they'd be bending over backwards to reach you, via snail mail if they had to. And getting a busy signal when you call back is also a bad sign - how many people "won" and are calling back?

I hope I'm wrong and you won, though. :D

frysad is right.

My mother-in-law does "sweeps" religiously (internet and via Mail).

The golden rule of SWEEPS is if they send you something and ask you to call back it's a scam.

MY mother-in-law has won:
A 24K Gold Replica of the Death Star ($7000)
A Laptop ($1500)

The reason I put the prices on is becuase both of those items required her to fill out an affadavit since they both count as income and are taxed at the end of the year.

Anything other than that is a scam. When she won the big prizes she recieved an email or phone call with a note saying that they would be sending out the affadavit, and once the affadavit was filled out, they would tell her her prize and send it to her.

I'm sure you already did this, but don't even waste your time. It's a scam.

I have gotten the same Email for the last week. If you notice it's got a Astric. Do NOT reply. I never replyed and it finaly stoped getting those Emails. If you read what the Astric ment you would find that you have to buy like 5 things or something and it's not worth it. Don't do it.
