[Spam Necro] So let's say I dropped my Rayban sunglasses and scratched them...

I am very, very sad.

It's basically a small cluster of scratches in the middle of one of the lenses.

Options:

1. Buy a scratch remover and possibly get ripped off with crap products.
2. Buy a new lens and replace the lens?
3. Beg to have them exchanged? They are still within the return/exchange period, but does SunglassHut allow exchanges for scratches due to user stupidity?

Help me. T-T

I remember stepping on my $150 pair of Oakleys, and they told me the replacement lenses would be around $80. I decided to get some cheap sunglasses instead. I gave in and ended up buying some more expensive sunglasses, rayban aviators. I sat on those and broke them. I bought some nice cheap sunglasses to replace them. Then my girlfriend bought me some rayban aviator's for christmas, which were taken when my car was stolen.

IMO, expensive sunglasses are just bad news. Both pairs of inexpensive sunglasses that I bought I still have, and if I step on them/sit on them I couldn't care less. Granted the expensive sunglasses broke twice due to my stupidity, but it was bound to happen, and would happen again if I bought some more expensive ones.

If you're anything like me, get some inexpensive sunglasses and don't make the same mistake twice!

Edit:
1. In my experience those "scratch removers" don't work.
2. Replacement lenses are really expensive.
3. I think this is your best bet. I doubt they'll let you return them, but I would just explain the situation to them and see what kind of options you have. I'm sure plenty of people come in with the same problem.

Are they marketed anywhere as being scratch-resistant or something? You could possibly claim defective lenses or something if the reason they were scratched wasn't something like gashing at them with a knife or something.

YMMV, but large companies like this really do take care of their customers. I own ray bans and treat them like dirt, but they've never scratch... But I had a $300 wallet that I left in my pant pocket while i threw it in the washer. it was ruined. I called the company, said that it had water damage - they asked me to mail it back and sent me a brand new one. Ditto with lots of other high end gear.

Buy new lenses. They aren't that much. I chipped one and called Ray Ban and ended up ordering replacement lenses for about $40/pr and that was for polarized lenses.

Option 4 if option 3 doesn't work. Buy another pair on Ebay. I'm not sure about the RayBan counterfiting there. It has taken over the Dunhilll and Dupont lighters area. You just gotta do your homework and watch.

You can send them in for repair. The standard repair charge is 50% of the retail price.

In your case, the repair would be replacing the lens/lenses.

Good Luck

No, but they do cause the iris to dialate more (lower light intensity), which permits more damaging light to enter the eye.

Cheap sunglasses are not a good thing.

My daughter was born after this thread was started, lol.

Seriously, though, I won't cheap out on sunglasses. Always name brand (usually Ray Ban) with UV coating and polarized. Once your eyes are fucked up that's it.

Buying expensive sunglasses is the same as buying expensive ear buds. Not worth the investment.

Depends what you mean by expensive. Decent ear buds aren't that expensive, but the packin/free ear buds are usually garbage and should be replaced immediately.

I've been buying Maui Jim sunglasses and I'm very pleased with them. Made the switch from Ray Ban years ago and never looked back. They are light weight, durable, stay in place on my face and they are polarized. I don't like glass lenses personally. Too heavy and they can chip fairly easily.

Most I ever spent on sunglasses was for my wife. I bought her a pair of Cartier sunglasses this year. They cost almost $1,000.

I have both and they get a lot of use. Cheap shades have shitty optics which are not good for your eyes. I have one very nice pair of IEM's and they sound a ton better than cheap ones. Take care of both your nice sunglasses and earbuds and get years of high quality pleasure.
