Spam From Me?

I really hate to see it, but one of my domains seems to be a spammer. Well, it's not me, but I keep getting bouncebacks in my admin account with all these fake e-mail returns. Is there anything I can do to prevent my domain from getting blocked in every spam blacklist?

BTW, if you get an e-mail from foose.net, most likely it's not me. :-/

Blacklists won't ban your domain based on the spoof'd name. They'll ban it based on the ip address associated with the origination of the email. I really hate those blacklists though, they act like a bunch of Nazi's and getting your domain removed is near impossible.

Tell me about it. Try working for a company with a domain of @bi.com ....

MSN and Hotmail blocked us a few months ago. I had to talk to many people to convince them that we are not a porn site.

We got blocked by Hotmail too. It took us months to get off their list.

Any ideas on how to stop the spam?

I guess I am just at their mercy, really.
They're spoofing your name not using your server so short of hunting them down and applying blunt force trauma you'll just have to live with it.

Kinda sitting here thinking about the problem. I think that we need some kind of "registered e-mail" system. A way of attatching a signature or code to the mail message that means it was sent from your domain or from your address. Sort of like PGP keys and encryption. Then you could say that any mails without the proper registration is just tossed out by spam filters.

What do you think?

You could take it even a step further and attatch these keys to your MX records. Unless the mail comes attatched with the proper key or is sent from your proper registered domain, the mail wont be routed. Thereby preventing people from spoofing return addresses. Which in turn may even help with the recent address spoofing done by viruses since now they can't just route themselves the messages would just dead end.

I've got the same problem here at work. Every day I'm bombared with spoofed emails from our domain, its getting really tiresome. Its probably some one's PC infected with a beagle vatient based on the messages and it sends them out every morning when its turned on. Argh!

I want to rule out an internal infection though...its possible it slipped through the outside filter. And AVG doesn't catch everything.

It does get annoying and will soon slow down when the infections get under control and users patch their system.

Hopefully.
