Recently, I have been receiving more than the usual amount of spam email. They are advertising emails with links to click and a link to unsubscribe. The unsubscribe link does not work so no surprises there. What is surprising is that the main link to the product being advertised does not work either. I sent the email back to the sender just to prove to myself that the sender's email address was a fake and as I suspected the email got bounced back as undelivered.
So what can I do? I see from the email header information that there is something called the sender's tcp/ip address. Can this possibly the sender's actual address? If so, what tool/utility can I use to give the sender a taste of his own medicine now that I have his ip address?

Can't remember the name of the site (spamcop?) but there are places where you can report things. If you value your email address at all, be very careful about which unsubscribe links you click (if any) and never respond to any mass-mailings (at least not with your real/main address).

Would love to thwock some of the mass-mailing folks upside the head. No, I'm not interested in copying DVD's. No, I don't want to get rid of my debt (well, I do, but it sure as hell isn't going to go away because of some damn email). No, Britney Spears was not doing the nasty and no, you didn't get it on tape. No, I don't want your damn university diploma nor your "international driver's license". No, you could not be "jailed by ebay" for selling some damn cd. The list goes on and on...

If you unsubscribe from the mail, you are just confirming to them that it is a good address, so expect even more after that.

Only honest sites that you know about will unsubscribe you.
