OK, so I setup a sub-account e-mail exclusively for AT stuff on or about 9/1/05, be it questions from people I'm trying to help, if I feel like dabbling in FS/T, etc. This e-mail is in no other place but my AT profile. I don't post it, it's not in my sig, and AFAIK I've never even sent an e-mail from it.

Every time I check for messages (every couple days) and I get hit with at least 34 e-mails of SPAM?

WTF??? I'm 90% sure it's from someone/thing here, because I have a couple other sub-account e-mails set up for various things and I've maybe gotten 3 total spam messages in them since I set them up 3 years ago! Does this happen to everyone, or is it just me?

i'm pretty sure a member here can't make u get spam unless they subscribe somewhere with your email address. but then why would they do that? anyone got a grudge against u?

AFAIK, I'm nowhere near popular enough to attract that kind of negative attention.

I know bots exist to scan memberlists of places, but I would think the AT staff has adequate virus/rootkit/whatever protection skills for that kinda thing. And even if they did, the e-mail is busted up with REMOVE in anyplace the e-mail is text displayed.

Ri runno...

It lookslike you are using it for more than just Anandtech. I see ebay and other stuff there. My Anandtech Specfic Account is used only for anandtech. In fact I almost never get spam. Just do not signup for stuff. Ask me and I will send you a gmail accout, when you recieve it delete your old Anandtech email and use this one. If you still get spam then use gmail filters in combination with Mozilla Firefox or Mozilla Suite 1.7.12

Those eBay & PayPal e-mails are phishing scams. My hand on my grandfather's grave, this e-mail is not used ANYWHERE but here. My own wife doesn't even have it because I wanted to keep it for strictly AT stuff. I'm using Firefox & Thunderbird for my primary Comcast account, and it gets nothing spam-wise, even if I check it online (like my Aquila76 account), there's no spam in that one. Maybe it was a 'brute-force' spam bot (they just toss in names/numbers @ popular domains)? YGPM

Maybe you should also replace '@' with 'AT'

you can't do that. if you replace the address, you'll get an email confirmation with a changed password, which requires you to have a working email address at ALL times. it won't allow you to use an illegitimate email address without the @ sign.

i think he means AnandTech itself show it as AT instead of '@' like they do the REMOVE

why go the extra measure? it would be stupid to do that since whoever is spamming the OP is already smart enough to filter out the REMOVE from the email address.

I may have worked out why I got the spam messages. I also post in the news/articles comments section, and that shows your e-mail in cleartext if you 'view source' with your browser. There's no 'Profile Options' for the news/article comments. Dammit, guess I'll set up a new email and stay the hell outa there.
