Spam Assassin, does it work for pop3?

My webhost has Spam Assassin available for use. However, does that only cover the webbased side of mail or does it cover pop3 as well?

it should work for everything as its in the mail server itself

I believe that Spam Assassin processes mail before it goes into the mailstore - it shouldn't matter which protocol you're using to download your mail.
