Does anyone use a spam/antivirus appliance with Exchange 2003? I know how it handles incoming and outgoing mail, though I was wondering how they handle internal mail sent from one Exchange user to another. Are there any units on the market that will filter internal mail also? If so how do these products do it?

Thanks for any info,

John

I haven't touched Exchange for a while but I know we use ProofPoint for spam / virus.

SurfControl has a pretty good product. I have used their web filter and would recommend looking at them for the email filter.

Like phantom ive dealt with SurfControl a good bit...more so their web filter but its definately a good product so i would think their outlook solution is no slouch.

Also check out GFI Mail Essentials or the Barracuda appliance.

Guys it nice of you to offer up companies, though none of you have touched the subject of my question. I am not having any issues finding the companies that offer products. I am looking for some info regarding how they handle internal mail.

both the SurfControl and Barracuda provide filtering for outbound, inbound, and internal mail.

most decent enterprise exchange filters should have this basic feature...

what are the exact procedures it uses and how does it work? dunno. try some of the company white papers, some of the SurfControl docs touched on the subject.
