I can't find a lift off time or where its being televised. This will be their first launch since the explosion back in May. I don't see any mention of a Booster landing as well. Possible they just want to concentrate on getting the rocket up safely.

Pretty cool pic of all the launch pads at the cape. LC-40 is the one Space X has been using that was damaged during the explosion in May and is still under repair. They will also will have use of the Historic
LC-39A. the launch pad that the Apollo program used but its still being retrofitted.

The thread title says Vandenberg which is in California so why are you showing the pads in Florida?

The reason the are launching at Vandenberg is because the Pad they normally launch from in Florida it is still being repaired and the one they will be launching at (old Apollo pad) is still under retrofit. And most importantly because its a cool picture imo.

Why do they need so many pads? How often is there a launch?

Might help explain why looks like a few retired sites.

Also another interesting picture of the cape. You can see the Vehicle Assembly Building on the left in the distance,

That's cool. Still, I had no idea that there were even 9 active launch sites here. Don't know much about the topic but still seems like a lot to me.

"With high winds and rain in the forecast at Vandenberg Air Force Base, the first launch of 10 Iridium NEXT satellites is now planned for January 14th at 9:54:34 am PST with a back-up date of January 15th."

Anyone know if Surf Beach will be closed tomorrow? I've never been up close to see a launch, but don't want to drive all the way there if i'ts closed. Coming from Santa Barbara.

SpaceX currently has a rather large backlog, but so does ULA and Arianespace (their US and European competition)

If SpaceX hadn't come along, where would all these launch customers have gone? Would ULA and Arianspace have cranked up their tempo? Would some other competitor have stepped up? Are they stimulating demand and if they disappeared so would (some of) their customers?

Drove up to Vandenberg to watch the launch yesterday. Took both my girls to their first space launch which they really enjoyed watching the rocket launch. Was parked right around Ocean and 13th street about 4-miles from the pad. It was like a Tesla convention on Ocean complete with Model X's showing off their gull wing doors.

It was a beautiful day for a launch with no marine layer and very clear. I could follow the launch with my binoculars all the way up through staging.

Looking forward to going back again when they do a RTLS at Vandenberg. Hopefully SpaceX can get through 2017 with no incidents.
