I remember someone here posted some of these high-res space photos from Nasa's website. Most of the forums members cried photoshop thinking they looked too good.

With no air and the right exposures they can get some mind blowingly crisp shots.

Why aren't they making it circular like all the space stations you see in Sci-Fi?

No way for us to build anything like that right now. Besides the point of the ISS is to do microgravity experiments so rotating it would be counter productive. ;)

i clicked on this thread thinking along the lines of 2069, but a real space thread is always appreciated too.

what i would really like to see is an internal map of the entire ISS...

what each module is, what you do there... etc.

That must have sucked to be the one taking the pictures.
"Just a little to the left, nope, down just a bit"
"You got it"
"No wait the earth rotated just a bit"
:)

That, and the ISS is already really expensive.
Now if we'd devote the Iraq War funding to a space station, then we could probably build a bike-wheel style space station. But right now, I think that that would be a waste of money, too. :)

Yep, like hitting a golf ball into space. Testing to see if a boomerang will return when thrown in micro-gravity. And, I've heard that they're going to throw a specially designed paper airplane to see if it can survive re-entry! I'm sure that'll have far reaching effects on us. :p

AWESOME pictures though!

What exactly is a space station? Can a person go inside it and is there a room(s) inside? Or is it just a computer that sends signals back and forth?

Yes, quite a few people can fit inside. It's not exactly "roomy," but it's not like they're squished in there.

Probes are the computers - robotic explorers with a fuel pack, power source, comm link, computer, and sensors.
