Sad to see the end of the shuttle missions. I have made contact with the shuttle twice on a voice contact, and once on a data contact. The shuttle usually had one amateur radio operator that usually made earth contacts a couple hours a day. All those folks were awesome!!

So awesome. Makes you wonder what could be done if we could fund scientific programs like we can fund military programs, etc.

I've never talked to the shuttle, but I have to the station crew a couple of times. I've also sent several thousand commands to the ISS. Mostly correct :whiste: 😉

That's cool. I used to do a little satellite work (Not a lot though) on AO-40, and the old Russian RS-12/13. Just don't have the time right now. The data contact I have with the shuttle was on packet. Have never gotten a contact on the ISS yet.....

I worked the ISS on Field Day of '09. Spoke with VA3CSA. Isn't ham radio fun? I also digipeat for the ISS using my TM-D700a that I use for a base.

Isn't the only picture ever taken of the shuttle and ISS?

I think that was one of Nasa's biggest goals for their last few missions. To get a pic of the two together.

It has been. We almost got the shot during the previous shuttle mission which would have been great because we had every type of active vehicle attached to the station. The Russians bailed on it due to technical reasons.

Wow, such a beautiful piece of machinery. It's a shame we're going to have to hitch a ride with the Russians if we want to get there.

That's badass! I'm taking my sone to the last launch next month. Hopefully we'll find out this week if we won the ability to buy tickets. Otherwise we'll be a bit further off, but no way we're missing it.
