space not concern - best quality playback??

Thanks for your great responses yesterday. My home movies on VHS - I don't want to save that much - so compression and space on CDR are not of concern to me. Playback and quality on a home DVD player are what I most care about.

BTW - I will input with ALL IN WONDER

I took the suggestion to Doom for further info
It appears they would recommend SVCD or something MPEG -2 based - or DVD2svcd

I am posting again to ask you if indeed I understood correctly and if so what programs best convert. I would use as little compression as I could to preserve quality.
Also just to verify - the new DVD recorders will not offer higher quality alternatives to preserve what I now have on VHS.

Thanks

Bump one more time
Please - would like to get started but need verification that the above info for my purposes is correct from those of you who know far more than I.

Thanks
