Space issue winxp c:

My C: has 1.1gb of files and my virtual memory is max 512. However if i check the drive propperties it says 2.1gb used... What is using up the 500mb?

Hibernation. There is a file "hiberfile.sys" in C:\ directory (hidden, system attributes). If you don't use hibernate, disable it in the "Power" control panel

How did you determine the amount of files that you have. Windows reports both the size of the data and the amount of space on disk that they take up. Due to cluster slack, files almost always take up more space on disk than their actual size.

It will almost NEVER be off by that much. I think it is his 512MB hiberfil.sys
