After I update to Firefox 1.5.06 pages on Firefox no longer scroll down when I hit the space bar. I couldn't find any option setting in Firefox pertains to the space bar setting either. I tried un-installing and re-installing Firefox to no avail. Any suggestion?

My space bar does scroll my page. I'm not sure what could be your problem though.
Sorry (free bump...lol).

Maybe you have it so that it tries to search as soon as you press a key. Searching for ' ' doesn't mix with using space bar as a scroller.

I highly doubt that. It works perfect in IE.

Try deleting your profile
C:\Documents and Settings\your_name_here\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

I believe that is the correct path.

Have you checked? IE is irrelevant because it doesn't have search-as-you-type.

As far as I know, IE and Firefox aren't the same browser. However, I could be wrong.

Just as some input. I'm on 1.5.0.6 and search as you type doesn't come up if you type a space, only if you type letters. Nice that. :)

Space bar scroll doesn't work for me either, I never even knew it existed anyway. Interestingly, I don't appear to be able to turn on 'Auto-scrolling' wasn't sure if maybe that's what space bar scroll was to do with.. If i tick the box, click ok, and go back to the options, it's unticked again. Sounds a bit MS that does.

OK, I've figured it out. If you have "Allow text to be slected with the keyboard" ticked, it doesn't work.

well, for me at least. just turned it off, and now it scrolls.

I don't know if this has anything at all to do with the topic, maybe it really does.
What does the "Scroll Lock" key on the keyboard do?

You might inadvertently have Caret Browsing turned on

You can Enable or Disable it by hitting F7

When it is ON the cursor arrows behave oddlly ... instead
of a smooth scroll, it jumps to the end of the page

Give it a check .. that may do it

"My spacebar scroll thingy was working fine until a couple of hours ago, I look at my prefs.js and found that for some reason the "Move system caret with focus/selection changes" [Option -> Advanced -> Accessibility] was enabled, disabling it made my spacebar scroll work again! :)

Also, removing "user_pref("accessibility.browsewithcaret", true);" from prefs.js will accomplish the same as above."

Problem solved. Thanks to a fellow AT member. Here is his or her solution "In Options, if you turn off "Allow text to be selected with keyboard" that shouhld make the scroll"
