I don't know what they're thinking.....

For client-based and server-based programs that communicate over the Internet or over a network, the new Windows Firewall feature that is included with Windows XP SP2 may be blocking unsolicited connections to your computer. Examples of these types of programs are:
  • Multiplayer games and instant message programs that are used over the Internet.
Windows XP SP2-based client programs that receive data from a server.
Windows XP SP2-based server programs that respond to client requests.
MORE INFORMATION

I also found that some devices, and programs stopped working after SP2 is installed. What a shocker.

It's pretty simple; a popup window will ask you whether you want Windows Firewall to block the connection, and you hit "No".

Quit your b1tching over one mouse-click, or just disable Windows Firewall altogether.

Yeah, I wish it was that simple for some of the devices that are "Not windows tested" (a.k.a we didn't pay big MS money, so we're not tested) will just simply stop working, and to get it working again, you're right, it's just a matter of a mouse click, on the uninstall SP2 button.

Like jpeyton said, it blocks them by default, but all you have to do is give it access when it tries to connect.

Although, since I have a router and the firewall only blocks incoming connections I don't use it.

What programs and devices? I've had problems with an old wireless card in a test notebook, but that's about it.
