SP2 = reinstall?

I've installed SP2 on my main game machine, and (while I wasn't expecting huge performance increases) the result hasn't been incredible: a whole extra point in 3DMark2003. :/

Which leads me to wonder: how many of you plan on wiping your entire machine for SP2? Are you just going to install over your existing and hope there's no performance conflicts?

Who misled you into thinking SP2 would INCREASE performance?!??!

By all accounts, SP2 slows things down more than it speeds things up. If you fileshare, you now are limited to 10 connections per second, say goodbye to your filesharing speeds.

I'm waiting for SP2 to be patched, cracked, and sufficiently hacked before I bother with it. Nothing i've heard has been good, and it seems like more BS in it cluttering things up..

Yep, SP2 is crap. The eMule and Shareaza forums (P2P programs) are starting to get posts from people saying SP2 fugged their connections. It apparently changes the maximum connections to 500. Doing that just kills any ability to use P2P programs.

I don't get it - you're waiting for hackers to find security holes before you upgrade? Are you eager to be a beta-tester for the new string of viruses and spyware or something?

SP2 is great. Most naysayers are the same type of people who hated WindowsXP at first, kids who don't know anything about computers.

There's a method to postpone the install for a bonus 120 days, if you're that hardcore. Google + Technet it. :p

There's actually a patch (not by MS) that bypasses the 10 connection limit. Don't know the link of the top of my head at this moment.

I'm going to wipe and reinstall, but not because of SP2... I use Win2k.

I'm reinstalling because I just got a 73GB cheetah 15k free from work :p

I installed SP2 right on, no reinstall. Don't really notice any difference accept that it tried to provide Antivirus software and firewall software, which I refused.

I like Windows, but I don't like things built into it like messenger and WMP and IE. They should be seperate entities. I'm tired of hearing that these things cause so many holes and crap.

Microsoft should ask you what type of things you want to install ex.

Windows - OS
IE
Messenger
WMP
Antivirus
Firewall

If they made it seperately, then I might install them, but I also think that it's wrong because why bother buying something you already got for free. Worse, you might be paying for these other technologies, even if you don't like them. I bought an OS, not an entire Product line.

BTW, it's not supposed to provide any type of performance increase, just a lot of security fixes.
