SP2 really hosed up a T41

This person installed SP2 on a perfectly functioning T41 laptop. Now the machine has problems booting (very slow), extremely slowness starting applications and saving files. Mainly with other MS software like Office 2000. It can take up to 5 minutes to start Excel now and saving a file as well. LAN server connections are also having problems and major slowness.

This sound familiar to anyone before? Is this a known issue that can be remedied? The laptop was functioning fine before SP2 was installed. Its very new, about 6 weeks and has been checked for viruses and spyware.

Any advice is appreciated

My guess would be it had spyware. Try running spybot and adaware and see what you get. Also there's a program called Spysweeper which picks up much more than those two combined, but it's only a free trial.

I tried adaware and spybot, also scanned with ravantivirus and norton and they came up with nothing. These symptoms only started after the SP2 install. 🙁
I cannot do a system restore and uninstill is not working as well/ 🙁

My system runs really slow now also ... and i have an xp sp2 installed.

I'm running a athlon64 2800 oc'd to something around a 3300 and it's slow. Web pages ... programs .... just slow ... bogged down ... my w2k was way faster, except boot up.

haven't figured a way to fix it yet ... looked at a lot of xp tweaking sites also.... still dont know what it could be...

Where I work we had a few clients that installed SP2 themselves, meaning they probably used the SP2 express installation and it hosed quite a few machines. When we updated all the other computers we support, we instead had to burn a shload of full SP2 install cds and manually update them instead of letting Windows download what it needed. Every machine we've used a full update pack on has come out fine.
