I have had SP2 for 3 days now. I read the Drudgereport daily, and it always hits me with a popup that gets by the Google tool bar/popup blocker. Well the SP2 blocker knocks it down everytime. Very few popups are getting thru now...

dont worry, the advertisers found work arounds for the google toolbar, as soon as SP2's popup blocker gets the same amount of users.......

I don't know if this information is enough for you to say that the SP2 blocker outperforms the Google blocker. If you turned off the Google blocker altogether, do you know if the SP2 blocker would catch everything that is normally caught by the Google blocker?

advertisers will start to target IE more that SP2 added pop up blocking. I don't think at the pace MS updates IE (outside of critical patches) MS will update the pop up blocking.

But .. MS started off right with pop up blocking. I hope they continue to add functionality once advertisers break through and show pop ups.

I've got this AdMuncher program that's awesome... it's been 99.9% effective on popups (including flash). It also knocks out most banner ads without messing up pages.

Has a couple other cool features like IP scramble and referrer spoof.

Firefox's pop-up blocker is > *.

In fact, Firefox's pop-up blocker is too good - I can't seem to get pop-up-window-on-user-click to work properly half of the time even. :(
Oh yeah, and for some reason, you have to wait for the entire page to load, before clicking on a javascript pop-up link, even for allowed domains, otherwise you get the pop-up blocked icon in the corner of the status bar. I guess for security reasons, scripting is disabled until the page fully loads or something.

OMG! another Firefox thread!

I found the sp2 blocker 100% effective since the betas, for the last 4 or 5 months.. It will be interesting to see how long it takes the "ad wizards" to find a way around it.

I also am a Firefox user, I also use the "Adblock" extension, which absolutly rocks the dog... it'll block everything including flash banners.
