Sp2 error?

This past week, I've been starting to get an error with the message "DrWatson Post Mortem Error" causing my windows explorer to crash sometimes. I've received this message everytime I tried opening a video file through wmp (not all videos to this, seems like just clips from digi cams/camcorder) and once so far while I was just organizing my icons on my desktop. I've had sp2 for some time now, but I've read that the problem is more common after updating your os to sp2. Anyone have a clue to what's going on?

run updated antivirus and/or malware scans.
run sfc /scannow from a command prompt.
run memtest86 or equivalent.
run a thorough hard drive diagnostic.

report back with results.

Start->Run: regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

They will remove preview functions for video & image that frequently causes explorer to crash or freeze

If you want those features back:

Start->Run: regsvr32 shmedia.dll
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

i know for certain that i do not have a virus/spyware. i have already checked for that. the funny thing is, the digi cam/camcorder clips thats causing my wmp to crash plays fine on winamp. i didn't think it was a codec issue because those clips have played just fine before on wmp, but this past week, it has been bugging out a bit. Maybe it is a codec issue?
