SP2 doesn't want to finish reboot

Xenon

Any idea at what point I should abandon this install of sp2? It's been telling me to "please wait" for about half an hour now. The cursor is still active and it hasn't completely locked up, though. I didn't think my computer was this slow. It's an xp1800 with 256mb ram. Certainly not the fastest computer, but I'd think that it could at least do an install. I'm pretty sure hard drive space is not a problem. Should I shut this thing down and start over? Any ideas?

I have a very similar problem. On reboot, I get the opening windows screen, but then it freezes. I can't get the install to finish. I have to go back to safe mode and then system restore. A real hassle so far. I hope that either the CD version or the automatic update work better than this.

You may want to cancel, than reboot and install it (without running other applications).

I've spoken with others who have had similar experiances when trying to install the SP on a machine that has been up for extended periods of time or with applications running in the background.

After almost two hours I finally decided to just shut it down. It then booted normally with no problems. Very strange, but at least it works.

Pull up task manager and see what it says is happening. Add as many columns to the process display as you can so you can see how many threads there are, how much I/O is going on, etc...

Do you happen to have Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com installed?
