SP2 and SP3 corrupt Win2k

I tried to install SP2 for Win2k, this caused a bsod upon loading Windows... reformatted, reinstalled Windows.. and this week I tried to install SP3, the same thing happened. BSOD, telling me to run chkdsk, to no avail, nor do any of the windows recovery options.
 
Do you have a Promise Technologies controller card ? There are known issues with them and SP3. There is a thread on that issue in the forums at arstechnica
