Well I tried to install SP2 as advised by my windows updater, it installed most of the contents then randomly rebooted. Now I get a message saying that my SP2 was not fully installed and my comp is unstable...When I go to add/remove programs and try to remove SP2, it gets almost all the way through uninstalling it but then a quick flash of a blue screen and a restart...it happens everytime I try to remove it. Most programs work fine but it's just very unnerving to buy a new comp and not be able to use it to full potential and have updater tell you that your comp is unstable. Is there another way I can remove it or should I delete the partition which my friend suggested and totally reinstall Windows XP Pro. If I go with the latter, will I have to get a new CD-key or will it still work? ArGh! Help me!!

If the computer is new and you're not going to lose anything then definitely do a fresh install.

It will still work with the old product key.

I'd reformat and reinstall, then install SP2 as the first thing. If it's a fresh installation that only includes up to SP1, I'd just download the full SP2 installer from Microsoft and install from that.
