I just installed this hotfix in my never ending hopes of making my computer faster. I know it changes the memory handling and it seems it might have done the opposite of what it was supposed too ?

I just uninstalled it, however the question remains, Is this going to be included in SP2 ? And if so, isn't it going to hurt many computers performances rather than help it ???

SP1 Slowdown Hotfix - Download - Mirror
Q815411 fixes a flaw in Windows XP SP1. Changes to memory handling code result in programs which often allocate memory (which is many of them) can take up to ten times longer than normal to start. This Hotfix will be incorporated into SP2 when it is released. Install this update after installing SP1.

This hotfix is only meant for the specific problem described in the Q article. Did you call Microsoft and get this hotfix? It doesn't look like it, based on the "mirror".

If you read the article it says "this hotfix provides a workaround in the heap algorithm to better handle a particular atypical and uncommon sequence of heap requests. The atypical request pattern was found in a custom-built program that does not bear much resemblance to the vast majority of other Windows programs in existence. The scope and the size of this hotfix is narrowly defined for this one particular program and the workaround has no benefit for the majority of programs or overall system performance."

So in other words, you probably didn't need it.

But it is going to be included with SP2.
