Hey long time no talk to. I have the SP2 cd. Installed it twice but had too many problems both times.
What i need is a SP1 cd to use on other computers a work on. I've found it's better to have it
installed first before venturing onto the net. I work on computers with dailup internet from time
to time and it can take a long, long time to download SP1 and leaves things open to all the
nastys just waiting for the chance to hop on board. Any idea about slip streaming.
Looked at your link and I will try to do with SP1.

Sure thing, use the routine in Neowin's guide but substitute the SP1A for SP2, you can get SP1A here (get the Network Installation).

But SP1A still has gobs of worm vulnerabilities, including the Sasser and Blaster ones that can take out the computer pronto when it's plugged into a broadband connection without a firewall. So also get this Update Rollup 1. What I would do is shorten its name down to 826939.exe and then run it from the command line with the /? switch, and it'll show all its command-line switches. If there's a command-line switch that can integrate it into your WinXP files, then you can do so before you burn your slipstreamed WinXP installation files to CD. Otherwise, you can include the patch on the CD and run it manually after installation.

By the way, at work I have mostly Win2000 systems, and what I'll do is to start with the latest SP (currently SP4 for Win2000) and install IE6 w/SP1 and DirectX 9.0C. Then I can run Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer to determine what it's still missing, and go to Windows Update, click Personalize Windows Update, check the box for Show Windows Update Catalog and hit the Save settings button. screenshot

Now I've done that, at the left there'll be a Windows Update Catalog link and I can manually hunt down allllllllll the patches, download them, and save them. I then shorten their names down to just their patch number, and make a simple batchfile that names each patch on its own line. Bingo, I can run a whole plethora of patches in one big shot, as long as I keep answering NO to the reboot prompts. As new patches come along, throw them onto the pile and add them to the batchfile. If you make a similar setup for WinXP, you can use it anywhere, even from a USB thumb drive.

For Win2000 there's a utility called QCHAIN.EXE that must run after the patches have all completed. For WinXP, beginning with SP1, that is not needed anymore. If that sounds interesting but I left out some details, LMK :)

I found and read the article for SP1. Problem is it is for slip streaming SP1 or 2 onto your
Windows XP installation disk. What i'm trying to do is create a SP1 cd to use after i've
installed XP with the persons own cd. Like I said you can create an SP1 complete cd
that dosen't require connecting to the web. I know because I had one that worked
as a stand alone installation. No internet connection needed. I believe it was burnt
to cd as an ISO cd. All I did was put it in the cd rom and click on the .exe icon and
it installed SP1 and asked to reboot. just that easy.

Oh, then I've been making things way too complicated. Go to this page and grab the Network Install file, it's a self-contained SP1A patch that does just what you want. And get that Update Rollup 1 patch as well, or the system will still be Worm Central.

Simply burn the two files to a CD as files, and run them from there. Or a USB thumb drive, even. Done. :)
