Do I need a high CFM fan or will a slow fan keep this heatsink cool enough? The quieter the better...

depends what cpu you have, wether youre overclocking it, how good your case cooling is...

for most people, with no or mild overclocking, a pretty slow rpm fan is ab fine on a big thermalright chunk of copper. Panaflo l1a seems to be popular choice.

P4 3Ghz, no OC. Case cooling is mediocre, but this is the first step in rectifying that problem.

Im using one with a quiet 92mm ADDA fan on my prescott @3.6ghz and its very quiet. I also have my case open too.

a panaflo L1A should be fine if you're not doing any overclocking. Or if you want, you could hook a 92 h1a up to a fan bus and hike it up when need be.

why use a fanbus whe you can use speedfan?

1) cause hardware is always better then software. (think of all the things you cant do with speedfan ~ duh!)

2) who said every single one of his fans are connected to the moboard?

I'm going to have to dissagre with that..... How is hardware better? and what can you do with a fan-bus that you can't with speefan?

The only limitation I can think of is the number of fans you can control, but anything more then a CPU, exhaust, and intake fan is pointless anyways.

The main point of speedfan is to have dynamic control over CPU and system temps, a fanbus can do this but has to rely on external temperature probes which are very inaccurate when it comes to detecting CPU temps. In this case software is a much better way to go.

Problem with speedfan is that when it or windows crashes your system might not be cooled adequately anymore.
If you really want it quiet get a 80mm L1 Panaflo and run it at 9V. Even undervolted to 5V a 92mm H isn't going to get close to the L1.

That?s not really an issue, just set the min speed to keep the CPU stable at idle. I've been using the program for at least 6-8 months now and it's never crashed. And if it did it wouldn?t matter the fan speed is never going to drop below the set min speed, its just as reliable as any fan bus.

Hardware is simply better coz it wont be using any resources ......Unless youre the type who likes
to run antivirus, software firewall and other stupid programs in the background..

I have an 80MM TT smartfan II. They have three methods for setting it up. Full speed, temp sensing, and adjustable dial. Puts out some decent air at full speed but is quiet when you turn it down.
