SOYO Computer Inc., one of the fastest growing major motherboard manufacturers in the world with 1999 sales of $315 million, today advised its distributors, dealers and customers that fake SOYO motherboards are circulating through unauthorized channels.

The company also issued a stern warning to anyone manufacturing imitation SOYO motherboards. SOYO has hired a legal investigation team, and will prosecute anyone who manufactures or knowingly sells fake SOYO product.

Approximately 1,000 imitation SOYO motherboards have been detected in South America, Asia-Pacific, Canada, and in the U.S. - however none have been sold through authorized SOYO distributors and resellers. The problem was discovered when SOYO's customer service department received some motherboards for repair with unknown serial numbers - an immediate indicator that the boards were fake.

The fake motherboards apparently also had identical model numbers, packaging and manuals, which makes them difficult to distinguish from genuine SOYO motherboards, according to SOYO. SOYO motherboards, which have been counterfeited, include the SY-6VBA133, SY-5EHM/5, and SY-5SSM/5.

oh well i guess soyo will have there hands full for now :)

cheers,

The odd thing about this anouncement is that it will likely have the effect of consumers avoiding any MB sold as "SOYO".
It would have probably been better for them to keep this quiet and simply sending out "official" SOYO mb's in exchange for the defective fakes.
