I searched and didn't see this posted on AT

Another FAR Soyo

Thanks to titewad over at chubbywallet

Link

$30 Soyo Rebate

$30 Bonus Rebate

The rebates take a while to arrive and may take an email or phone call to wake them up but they do come.

I got mine from the last one, took about 5 months. One email and it showed 3 days later.

Still a good deal on a decent board.

There is another thread going regarding a mobo at NewEgg that is FAR. Most everyone is commenting on how bad the Soyo rebates are, like 5 months or more wait, if ever... Based on what I've read, I will NOT be jumping on any of these Soyo deals.

Wow, this is the third FAR Soyo Motherboard I've ordered this week.

1. SY-P4RC350 $90 w/2 $45 MIR's (Newegg) - shipping was $5 - Nov 9th
2. SY-P4I875P $180 w/2 $90 MIR's (ZipZoomFly) - shipping was FREE - Nov 9th
3. SY-KT600 $60 w/2 $30 MIR's (ZipZoomFly) - shipping was FREE - Nov 12th

Soyo has tightened up their rebates too. The Postmark date is only a couple weeks away instead of a month or 2. Also, instead of 12-14 weeks, they've changed it to read 10-12 weeks for your wait.

Also, they now require registration online before sending them the UPC and Packing Slip.

All these changes may trim a month or 2 off the rebate times.

We'll see. :)

Well I'm in. This is the first decent (KT600 chipset, ATX) AMD FAR mobo deal I've seen. It'll make a nice second or third system. :) Just make sure to follow up on the rebates!

I purchased a K7VME from SOYO (a cheepie for my daughter) for $50 at mwave with a $50 SOYO rebate... sent exactly as directed but I didn't save a copy of the UPC.... you know where this is going... no rebate and I'm SOL. Just my experience and may have been bad luck.

pappadj,

You're just the kind of customer Soyo wants. Don't follow up on your rebate and Soyo wins !

Don't you want your money ?

I sent you a PM

2 things.

1. Soyo is the reason why rebates should be made illegal. Why should anybody have to go through hoops to get their rebate. You follow the instructions and you should get your rebate. PERIOD!!! No phone calls, no followup should be necessary.

2. NICE BOARD..........Have used 2 of these on builds and both are solid but do not expect to get 8x out of the AGP slot. It really only functions at 4x.

First point leigh6 raised is 100% correct. I bought a Soyo FAR board in April, finally got the rebate check last week after repeated emails, phonecalls, etc.

As far as quality goes, the motherboard I got (different model) stunk-miserable manual, online help just a repeat of the manual. My onboard NIC never worked, and the AGP slot only occassionally.

Do a search in this forum under SOYO before jumping on this bandwagon. I'll never buy another.

Second-tier motherboard maker Soyo Computer plans to phase out production of its motherboards and instead focus on development and distribution of computer-related upstream components and plastic materials, according to company spokesperson Dave Liu.

Soyo will also change its corporate name to Hao Teng Technology (translated directly from its Chinese name), Liu noted.

The shift of business came following last week?s reshuffle of the company?s board of directors and board of supervisors.

The company held a provisional shareholders meeting last week to elect new directors and supervisors, after it recently completed the issuance of 39 million new shares through a private placement. The shares, which have a book value of NT$10, were sold to an investment firm at a discount of 70.1% (NT$2.99).

Liu also stated that Soyo is now in talks with at least three China-based companies to establish partnerships that would explore business opportunities in China.

The company currently has registered capital of NT$1.367 billion and plans to cut its capital by 28% in the first quarter of 2005, Liu noted.

That's interesting. The question is.....is this more of a reason to jump, or more of a reason not to jump?:)

I think jump on it. The main concern was wether they were going to go out of business.

Be careful. If soyo became another company and closed their US company, then, kiss rebates good-bye.

An update on SOYO "going out" of the mainboard business. LINK.

Looks like SOYO boards will continue to be sold in the USA. It also looks like all rebates will be honored...

I picked this info up over on FW.

ZipZoomFly sent me a used, damaged, doa board. No manual. Customer service is only offering me an opportunity to rma the board, but they specifically said they will inspect it and have reasserted the requirement that I need to return an undamaged board. This, after I told them I received a damaged one in the first place.

Communication is awkward, since their idea of language and sentence structure is not what I learned in school.
