hmmmmm.... i was thinking, they have an intel WS440BX for $49 shipped, use a coupon to bring it down to around $36... and since its a slot 1, use a slotket (MSI or Iwill) to adjust the voltage from there... i read a post in the For Sale forum of someone o/cing a celery2 566->850 using this board... hmmmm....

I understand that the WS440BX's voltage regulator does not go down below 1.8v. Their may be certain revision # WS boards that do, but their is no way to know what you'll get. Some people are OK with running their C2 at 1.8v but if you are not...out of luck.

I saw that WS440 BX too...but it is a refurb...I read a lot of people complaining about receiving junk from overstock, when they bought the refurb boards. who knows why they were not working in the first place? I don't want to take a risk, even if they sell it for only 10 bucks. it is a MB, come on...I would rather go in for a new one, even if I have to sacrifice some 50 MhZ overclocking capabilities...;)

I have bought five mainboards from Overstock (one MP440BX Intel, three MSI 5185 and an Intel Mailman Pentium board.) All have worked as advertised. I was lucky enough to use discounts on almost all these boards, so the price was good. Sometimes you can get the $20 off $50 by using a different e-mail and credit card. You might also need a different phone number. This works better on a computer that has never accessed Overstock and bought items with an established account. Those pesky cookies might tip your hand and you won't be able to get the discount. I find the links from techbargains to be more reliable than big big savings.

i wouldnt mind running at 1.8, i used to put my p3 700 at 1.85, but now its down to 1.7. i wonder if i could say that my soyo dint werk, and if they'd let me get the WS440BX + $ for a trade in. ill see how the mileage w/ the soyo is first( 5 day return policy, after that 15% restocking fee)

The MSI 5185 is an OEM board for Gateway. If you look closer, you will find information for this board at the MSI website. This is a pretty good all-in-one super 7 MicroATX mainboard. Works good for K6-2 and some K6-3 chips. Won't work with the new K6-2-3+ chips.

OK, I really need an answer. If I drop my Celeron 566 onto this board, kick the bus to 100mhz, will I get 850? Thanx

akumax, this SOYO has a full 30 day money back guarentee, as this is a NEW board. not a refurb like the 440BX which has only 5 day return policy.

What is the default voltage setting for this board? I heard that some celerons are not overclockable, but I donno which ones...is 600 MHz celeron overclockable? pl. lemme know. thx.

I just picked up a celery 600 for 70.95 from buy.com...hope I can hit 800 MHz with this Mobo and processor. could someone recommend a good cooling system for this? thx.

For all thoes first time overclockers out their, keep in mind that this board does not allow voltage adjustment. Most C2 processors will not overclock up to 100mhz FSB without increasing the voltage. This means that 566@850 or 600@900 is very unlikely. If you want to overclock up to 100mhz FSB, this board is not the best choice. It may be possible to obtain a more mild overclock, using the 75 or 85 FSB settings but even this is no guarantee. Good luck.

thx nessism, but why can't I run it at 100 FSB? As celeron II is Cu Mine, it should be able to run at 100 FSB, even at the default voltage, we could reach 800 Mhz, right? also, can't we change the voltage settings in the bios? yes, ofcourse, I am a newbie to O/C. ;( pl. help me out..

Buckeye,
Inherently, this boards doesn't allow voltage adjustment to the CPU within the bios. So it's going to run at the CPU's default voltage, period. Nessism is saying very few CelyII's will run at the 100 MHz bus at default voltage, which I agree with. If you want a nice cheap system, this is good. Brand new and only around $50 (supports PIIIs as well accordig to the Soyo support site). You could also check the FS section for any variety of motherboards. Many ABITs allow voltage manip (BH6, BM6, etc). Hope this helps.

okay...got it..thx.. by the way, whats the core voltage for celery 600? earlier ones had 1.5 V, but is it true that the new ones have 1.65 V? if thats the case, then we can easily reach 750MHz range at 83x9 setting. right?

All of you who think that 'all' celly 2's will automatically run stable at 100 mhz fsb at default voltage are going to be in for a rude awakening. The early ones only defaulted at 1.5v, and that usually just isn't enough juice. The PIII's that run the same core are running at a higher voltage. Another thing, many people are having problems with the new cc0 stepping celly's (the ones that default to 1.7v) even posting in these earlier socket 370 boards. For example, my Abit BM-6 (nor anyone else's...check the newsgroups) will not boot with the the 1.7v celly that I picked up from buy.com. According to Abit , this cannot be fixed with a BIOS update. I'd be surprised if this Soyo does. Keep us posted.

railer is correct. I had the same problem with my BM6 and celery 633. I think it is a cb0. I had to buy a neo adapter just to get the thing to boot.

just got my celery 600 from buy.com. it has 1.7 V core voltage. how can I know if it is cb0 or cc0 stepping? which one is better? I assume and hope that this chip will run at 100 MHz without any problems. still waiting on my mobo, and will post when it gets here. happy holidays ;)

If your chip defaults to 1.7 then I'm 99% sure that it's cc0 stepping. Good luck getting that to run on this MB. I had both the 600 and 633 celly's to answer your previous question. BTW, my cb0 celly 600 is running at 945 mhz @ 1.6v on my BM6 as I type this...

This is the list of Celerons that are still available on the market.

Celeron 700
Celeron 667
Celeron 633
Celeron 600
Celeron 566
Celeron 533 FCPG
Celeron 533 PPGA
Celeron 500 PPGA
Celeron 466 PPGA
Celeron 433
Celeron 400
Celeron 366

All Celerons up to 533MHz are PPGA. All Celeron above it are FCPGA (stepping cb0, and the new cc0).

Celeron 533 comes in two versions 533PPGA, and the new Celeron II ? 533FCPGA.

By default, the ZX chipset will support only PPGA, i.e. up to Celeron 533PPGA.

Unless Soyo has some unknown trick up their sleeves, all Celerons from 533FCPGA and above will not boot on this MOBO.

In Addition a lot of Celerons FCPGA need a boost in voltage to run at 100MHz (up to 1.9V), this Soyo boards detects core voltage automatically and Voltage can not be adjusted.

from soyo's site for 6IZA board:
Socket-370 for Celeron? Processor 300A~533MHz and CeleronII 566MHz+
this is what I read in the specifications of the mobo, and then I thought I could run a 600 MHz celeron, as it just says CeleronII 566MHz+....what do they mean by the + symbol then? won't my mobo support this processor? I don't even want to run it at 100 FSB, even 83 FSB will do (I am not gonna play games)

hey, buckeye, im not even gonna bother trying to use this board. im going to try to see if i can return it and get the Intel WS440BX, because it's a slot 1. so therefore, buy that MSI6905 slotket and use it to adjust voltage so it can o/c better...

Hey Buckeye What's your results with the board. I have one to arrive Monday and am trying to decide on which processor to buy. Someone in the Soyo newsgroup said they have a CelII 566 running. I don't plan on overclocking I just want the fastest CPU that I can use
