Soyo SY-6BA+III and +100 question.......

Both MB's seem to be limited to an 8x clock multiplier.....is there some simple workaround or do I just use a lower multiplier and bump the FSB?

This came up while playing with a Celery 566 over the weekend (8.5x66MHz).

The CPU is clock locked and is set internally, meaning you do not need the higher multipiers to be supported in the bios of the mobo.

both MB's see the 566 as a 566 during boot but in the bios it's defaulting to 4.5x124MHz. So lacking an 8.5 multiplier just use 8.0x105 to get near the magical 850 mark? My PIII-550 Cu will run at 133MHz all day on either board but I'm using a supported multiplier of 5.5.

I don't mind relying on the FSB to OC...I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing some simple work-around to generate an 8.5 or higher multiplier. Seems Soyo is a little behind the curve on bios updates (especially the +100!!).

For the +III, flash to the latest bios. After doing that the +IV correctly shows all stats (C2-566, 8.5*66), should do the same for the +III.

No matter what multiplier is shown in the bios, the system will use the 8.5 multiplier. Just set the fsb to the speed that you want and save/exit. So...if you wanna run at 850mhz, just set the fsb to 100. It doesnt matter what multiplier is showing. (Although I would leave it at 8, so that the spec.s look closer to reality.)

And yes, Soyo is painfully slow in releasing bios updates.
